Last weekend, we had the reunion of all reunions at our house. Two of my best friends from Hesston were both driving through Kansas City, so we decided to have a little get together. Angela was my roommate in college and Tara played on the volleyball team with Angela, so we naturally became great friends! Since I last saw these two gals, we have each had beautiful little kiddies. Excited did not even begin to describe how I felt when I found out that I was going to be seeing them AND meeting their precious children.
Ang and her husband Jared were on their way back from vacation in Arizona with their little girl, Eliza and needed a place to stay while driving back to Iowa, so of course I said our place was open to host. Then Tara and her husband Chad decided to make a quick one night trip up to KC with their little guy, Kohen. They got in a bit late, but that didn’t stop us from staying up late, catching up, doing lots of laughing and, of course, drinking white apple sparkling grape juice (it was a college favorite).
We were able to spend the morning, just us girls, going to Panera to pick up breakfast, then spent the rest of the morning playing with our kids and making a quick trip to Zuzu’s. It was probably the best 12 hours I have had in a long time. It was so neat to see both of them in their roles as “Mommy.” Although I knew that each of them would be great parents, it was so awesome to see them loving on their kids. It was even more fun watching our kids play and interact with each other. Eliza just did a lot of watching since she isn’t too mobile yet, but Kohen and Nora had a fun time running around and “sharing” with each other (emphasis on the sharing part. We are all learning this fine art). We ended our time together with lunch at Oklahoma Joe’s (duh!) and all got nice and full off of the greatest KC BBQ there is. Word to the wise, if your haven’t had their onion rings, your missing out big time. Want to blow your mind even more? Try their BBQ brisket sandwich, the Z Man. It has onion rings on it. Best food ever, hands down.
Although the one night visit was short, it was so sweet. I hold these friends so closely to my heart, and it was a joy to spend time with them. Thanks for making the effort to get together, girls. You warmed my heart, so!
