Off Week

in Uncategorized on April 5, 2013

This has kind of been an off week – we were in Milford last weekend for Easter and are going back again tomorrow for Eric’s alumni tournament. Lots of laundry, getting re-organized, then getting re-packed…sometimes I think we should have just stayed up there all week long. But I must say, there’s no place like home 🙂
Whenever we travel, Nora’s napping and night time schedule is always thrown off – I have come to the conclusion that there is really no way around it. We try and keep our times the same if we can, but our efforts usually go right down the drain by the end of our trip. So this week we did a lot of getting up in the middle of the night, long attempted naps in Mommy and Daddy’s bed and general boo-hooing from our normal Miss Happy Pants. But this also meant lots of cuddling, which I am totally o.k. with.

Nothing like precious little baby feet!

I am so grateful that Eric is such a helpful husband. Whenever I have had longer days (or weeks, in this case) with Nora, he is always the first to spend some extra time with her in the evenings so I can get things done…or shower haha! I love how sweet Eric is with our girl. It has truly been a joy watching him become a dad. I knew when I married him that he would be a great father, but I had no idea just how great he would be. I came downstairs two nights ago and found him dancing around our living, ball room style, room singing a little made up song to Nora. I grabbed my phone as fast as I could to take a picture. I think the smile on her face tells you just how much she enjoyed it.
I was able to spend quite a bit of time with my mom this week. The three of us did some shopping together, went out for Pizza Shoppe (of course we had The Pink Stuff on our salads) and went to go and visit Grandma at her rehab home. I tell you what, there is just something about babies. The elderly just love them! I love to see their faces light up when I roll past with Nora in her stroller. I like to think that she is a bright spot in their days. My mom didn’t tell Grandma that Nora and I were coming along, so she was especially surprised!

And what is a home for the elderly without birds, right? There is a big bird cage right at the entrance of her rehab center with about twenty teeny tiny little birdies flying around in it. All different colors and types. I rolled Nora over to the cage, not sure what she would think. She was mesmerized. We sat in front of the cage for about ten minutes singing Rockin’ Robin (I have changed the lyrics to Rockin’ Nora) and she just giggled the whole time.

Our shopping adventures the past few days, we have made great progress! In my last posting, I had said that I bought the perfect pair of shorts, only to have the looming images of bathing suite shopping in the back of my mind. I honestly almost cried every time I thought about it. But this must have been my lucky week – I found and purchased TWO, yes, that’s right, TWO bathing suits! It’s an Easter miracle! I got the first one at Target (my all time favorite store – even better now that the one down the road has a Starbucks in it). So every gal needs a little black dress, right? Well I’ve found myself a little black bathing suit. Hip, hip…Hooray!! As if that wasn’t enough, I was out shopping today at Old Navy and decided to go out on a limb with this navy suit. Navy…I know, right? It seemed a little not my color when I looked at it, and I was dreading trying on a bikini, but it was super cute on. I feel a tremendous weight off my shoulders now that my summer shopping is already done. I was especially excited when we ended our trip with Nora’s first pair of clear, glittery jelly shoes. I was instantly brought back to my childhood days with jellies… Sigh…Mine were green with the Ariel from the Little Mermaid on them. I wore those things all the time! I am sure that Nora is going to look just fabulous tomorrow in her new little jumper and jellies at the petting zoo…absolutely fabulous!!

Nora is just changing so fast these days – personality and physical changes. For the longest time, I thought she was a mini-Eric (which I was totally thrilled about), but now there seems to be some Janzen trying to shine through. Most people say that she resembles my brother, Jared, but my mom and I are trying to convince ourselves that she looks like us 🙂
Then my mom pulled this little gem out and I definitely can see a resemblance! Only time will tell, I suppose….
Although, it may appear that she may be a part of the Chicken Little family as well. Hee! Hee!

We are going to Deanna Rose tomorrow and I can not WAIT! I remember going there as a little girl and am so excited to take Nora. She was so intrigued by the cows last weekend, that I’m hoping she will be interested in all the other animals there. I’m sure I will have plenty of pictures to post, as well as pictures from our trip back to Milford.
But right now, Eric and I are laying on the couch, letting our Z-Mans and onion rings from Oklahoma Joe’s digest. Dinner at our favorite place is always a great way to end the evening 🙂
