Honey BBQ Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Dressing

in Old Fashioned Homemaking on May 11, 2016

When my husband and I used to live in Kansas City, we used to enjoy our 5 minute drive down the road to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the ball game and grab some wings. But now that we live nowhere close to a B-Dubs, we find ourselves coming up short when craving our favorite honey BBQ wings. I’ve searched and searched, and tried so many different recipes and finally found one that everyone is excited to eat (even my kids). And of course if I had to come up with the perfect recipe for wings, I also had to find the perfect recipe for blue cheese dressing. Because I just can’t buy the bottled stuff.

I just can’t….

So here’s the recipe for my Honey BBQ Chicken Wings.

Serves: 12 wings
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients:

Wings:
  • 12 wings
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Sauce:
  • 1 cup Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ Sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon siracha
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl, combine flour, salt, garlic powder, chili powder and pepper.
  3. Wash and dry chicken wings, then coat both sides with flour mixture.
  4. Cover large cookie sheet with tin foil and spray generously with cooking spray and place coated wings on sheet.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes (note, if you are using boneless wings or tenders, this time will be a bit shorter). Turn wings half way through baking time.
  6. While wings are baking, combine sauce ingredients in small saucepan and bring to a simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  7. When the wings are finished baking, dip them into the sauce with tongs to coat completely. Place them back on the tray and bake for another 5 minutes, broiling them for the last minute so they get a little bit crunchy.
  8. Serve hot with ranch or blue cheese.
Recipe for Blue Cheese Dressing

Serves: 6
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Chill dressing overnight

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 cloves minced garlic (I use the canned garlic you find in your fresh produce section)
  • 3/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (more to taste if you like it hot)
Instructions:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl
  2. Place in air tight container overnight. This gives all the ingredients to really blend together well and gives it a nice, tangy bite!
So there you have it! I hope that your family loves this meal as much as mine did! And right after this meal, we hit the bath tub… because wings are just messy!

Ohh! Those look yummy! The closest Buffalo Wild Wings to us is about 40 minutes away, so I will totally have to give those a shot!!
