Our New Digs

in Uncategorized on February 5, 2014

So I have had LOTS of emails, texts, messages, etc. requesting an update on how we have been since we moved to the farm. I have one word to describe our move – SMOOTH. Eric and his dad are packing masters, and since we (Eric, myself and my folks) had almost our entire house in our garage before moving day, packing the trucks were a breeze. Once we got every thing up to Nebraska, the unloading and re-organizing began. Believe it or not, we got our ENTIRE house in the guest house and it’s garage…everything. I can’t believe that we did it, but we did, even with walking room to spare.

All packed up and ready to leave

Just an adorable picture of Nora I had to throw in 🙂

Getting situated at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Our entire lives packed into a garage. Unbelievable

Enjoying the first of many sunsets at the farm.

Sitting on Nora’s favorite steps one last time before we left the house for good. Don’t even ask me how that went. Many tears shed and many Sour Patch Kids and beef jerky consumed. Right. To. The. Thighs.

This past week we have had lots of organizing, unpacking and getting ourselves acquainted with our new, albeit temporary, home for the next year. Nora’s room got finished last week and the extra kitchen cabinets got hung to put the finishing touches on our place and that made it really feel like home. I was quite nervous coming back after being back in KC next week; nervous that I was going to have a hard time coming back and not feeling happy to be here. But here I am, happy (and cold) as a clam, and I have God’s wonderful grace and faithfulness to thank. Many of my closest friends have been praying for my heart as we have made this transition; that I would feel peace and JOY here, a sense of belonging and home. I just didn’t think that I was going to feel these things this soon. So to those of you who have been praying for my heart along side of me – THANK YOU! Your prayers are being answered already!

Here are a few pictures of our new place…more window treatments and decorations to come when my mom visits this next weekend 🙂

Living area (yes, the brown chair remains)

Sink, complete with my glittery Valentines Day tree

View from our bedroom

Stepping outside of our front door – Lucy’s cage and grain bins. Yep, no denying we are living on a farm

Kim and Sheila’s house in proximity to ours

Lucy, who keeps us up at night by barking at coyotes right outside our window

Our bedroom

View from our back window – in the spring, this will be planted with sweet corn, flowers and other veggies. The train runs just behind the tree line in the ditch. Surprisingly, the hum of the cars on the tracks is quite soothing at night.

We spent most of Sunday afternoon and evening in Urgent Care with Norakins with extremely high fevers and an ear infection. The sweet girl is pretty close to her old self again today and was super excited to go out and romp around in the snow and visit Daddy in the shop.

Since we have been here, a lot of our days have consisted of playing in our house, Grandma and Grandpa’s and watching Daddy work on the trucks in the shop. It’s nice for Nora to have the extra room to run around in, but she tends to get into things that she’s not supposed to – like the millions of tools that are literally everywhere. Apparently they all have a purpose.

My hard working man enjoying having a lift in the shop. Dreams do come true!

“What? I’m not supposed to drive the lawn mower?”

Type A personality coming out, even in the bath tub 🙂

So that is the update on how things are going up here. I am currently in mourning over the fact that I no longer have a dish washer, garbage disposal or ice maker. Just call me Laura Ingalls Wilder, living life rough out in my little house on the prairie 😉 I take that back – our garbage disposal is Lucy, she gets all the scraps around here. Gotta give her energy so she can chase off those coyotes! This morning, we drove into Pella in Lincoln and picked out all of our windows and doors for our new house! One step closer to making our dream farmhouse a reality! A HUGE thank you to everyone who has been praying for us the past couple of weeks. We can’t tell you how much they have meant to us. What wonderful, true friends we have! You all are such a blessing to us!

I'm thankful that God has given you a happy heart in all of this and that the move went so well. Your home is so nice! Why build? I love how you've made it a home and that is really what it's about….coming home. Eric looks so happy!!!! Glad Nora is feeling better. Enjoy adding the finishing touches to your home. It will feel warm and cozy once you have window treatments up. I'll continue to pray for you in this transition.

Wow! You have such a wonderful home. It seems that moving to the farm was a great decision. The setting seems so suitable for your family. Anyway, I love your plan of having window treatments. That will really do wonders, seeing as how beautiful the scenery is outside, which can only be more accentuated by the perfect window. I’m so happy for you guys! Thanks for sharing that! All the best!
