Christmas Home Tour

in Uncategorized on November 5, 2013

Yes, friends, yes. It’s that time of the year. THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!! The season of celebrating God sending His Son to earth to save the world!! Last week I dug out all of my Christmas tubs and got to organizing and planning for our last holiday season in our house (sob!). I can’t even begin to describe how much joy it brought me to pull out all of the decorations that overflow my heart to help celebrate our Savior’s birth! This year I had to be a bit conservative in my decorating, since our house is currently on the market, so I wasn’t able to do anything too obnoxious (insert sad trombone noise here), but I was still able to use all of my favorite pieces to bring our home to Winter Wonderland life. I normally have a Christmas tree in each room, and this year, I only have 3 trees total. So sad 🙁 So here it is, my Christmas Home Tour-the Subdued, Our-House-Is-For-Sale Edition.

When we first bought our home a few years ago, I had next to nothing when it came to Christmas decorations. So I decided to do some brainstorming on what I wanted our home to feel like during the BEST holiday season. I had originally thought about going with all mercury and greenery, but I wanted something with a little more color and vintage feel than that. That’s when I found this adorable little glittery tree, with red, gold, silver and pearl balls on it with a matching wreath. They were the perfect starting pieces to begin my Christmas décor collection, and I’m so glad that I decided to buy them when I did. Almost everything that I have purchased since then has somehow tied in with this tree and wreath and their colors. I would HIGHLY suggest picking out a piece that you really love when trying to figure out your holiday theme. It makes your home flow together so nicely.

Of course, I used my mantle again as the main place of décor for this room. Normally I have lights on it during Christmas time, but I didn’t want to over due it for any of the showings. I decided to keep it simple and clean this year, and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

This is one of my favorite pieces that I have. I LOVE the vintage garland around the letters, don’t you? I got these from Zuzu’s last year.

I love me some Santa Clause up on the rooftop!

Even thought I decided to not decorate with mercury alone, I couldn’t pass up these adorable mercury trees from Nell Hills. I just want a whole forest of them!

I didn’t want to go over the top with decorating the bookshelves, but I couldn’t help but put these little trees up. I loved them from the second I saw them. They reminded me of the trees from Rudolph 🙂
From Zuzu’s, of course (they have some in stock right now!)

I had high hopes that our manger scene would stay in tact this year, but as you can (obviously) see, it did not. And in other news, Pluto the dog decided to join the cast of the Greatest Story Ever Told, thanks to Nora.
I got this manger scene for a steal at a local antique store. Oddly enough, it was the same model I had growing up as a child

I kept my mercury/burlap tree out behind the kitchen sink for Christmas and replaced the pumpkins with some cute little snowmen. Both are from Zuzu’s

I wanted our kitchen table centerpiece to be mobile, so I chose to place my display on an old barn door. Lots of gold, pearl and sliver bulbs with some pretty little birdies 🙂 Lantern, bulbs, mercury pinecone, birdies and snowflake from Nell Hills

Some more mercury in the guest bathroom. These beauties look GORGEOUS when they are lit up with little tea lights! I got these at Zuzu’s as well two years ago

L-O-V-E this tree from Nell Hills! And this sign just says it all

I had a hard time figuring out how I wanted to decorate my china hutch. I decided that the infamous Eberspacher Carolers needed a new home this year, so I put them up atop the hutch and they fit perfectly with some greenery and lights! I also hung this adorable little “Merry Christmas” banner up from Zuzu’s in front of the glass. I love the way it turned out!

My very favorite Christmas décor….the family of carolers. I scored BIG TIME when I got these at an antique store a few years ago for only $15.00. I cry every time I pull them out of the storage tubs. No lie, ask my husband

We put up our tree on November 1st. and it looks fabulous! It was so fun watching Nora try and help put ornaments up. She actually did way better than I thought! We bought our pre-lit tree from Hobby Lobby a few years ago and I can’t even tell you how easy-peasy it is to put it up. Both Eric and I agree that it is one of the best purchases we have ever made. I’m hoping to have a post coming soon on some good tips for trimming your tree, as well as sharing some of my favorite ornaments from ours. I am also going to run through a couple of super cute DIY ornaments that are kid friendly and are sure to make great Christmas presents for friends and family.

So there it is, our home in all it’s Christmasy, glittery glory. I have to give a special shout out to Eric for letting me get all my holiday stuff out BEFORE Halloween. He knew how excited I was to get it all up before the house went up for sale and was a total sport for letting me do so. What a sweet guy 🙂

Here’s a few happy little snowmen to end this post 🙂
Snowwoman angel from Zuzu’s, Rosy the snowwoman from Zuzu’s, Bobble head Snowman from Nell Hills and Glittery snowman from Hobbly Lobby
