My Auntie Rhoda and Uncle Karl live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and we are blessed enough to see them about once or twice a year (which is totally not enough, but we take what we can get). The last time we saw Rhoda and Karl was this past Easter, as we laid our hands on her in prayer for healing and wisdom, as she was about to embark on the journey of chemo. I am so grateful that I was able to throw my arms around her neck, hear that contagious laugh and listen to her tell us what the Lord has done in her life over the past year. It was a joy to see them! Most of our visits revolve around a lot of sitting around indulging in good convo. There is nothing like mid-morning breakfast talks over a good cup of coffee….or late night talks over a good cup of coffee…. or mid afternoon talks over cranberry limeades…. No matter where we were or what we were doing, there was always some sort of beverage drinking and wonderful conversation, which usually involved either hysterical laughter, ridiculous jokes or a lot of crying. Every moment was fabulous!
They got in on Thursday night and we had dinner over at my folks house. I made chicken spaghetti, baked veggies and rolls with, of course, homemade strawberry jam. Like, the kind of jam that you want to slurp up with a straw. Oh, yes…that kind of jam. Divine.
Rhoda and Karl were finally able to meet little Nora – it was so cool finally introduce her to two people who I look up to and respect so much. She was a bit timid at first, but warmed up after getting used to the wild, maniacal Neufeld laughter.
Canada visits Kansas
This picture basically sums up the weekend 🙂
Lots of “getting to know you” moments
Nora even wore her special ruffle bottom bib overalls for the occasion – thanks, Grammie!
In the midst of our crazy family weekend, a lot of BIG and EXCITING changes came to fruition for the Janzen family. We spent quite a bit of time a the store this weekend….that’s right, THE store! My mom and her BFF Melanie are opening their own place, Zuzu’s Petals! Their dream of owning and operating their own boutique is finally coming true, and let me tell ya, it’s going to be amazing! Clothing, shoes, personalized jewelry, home decor, china, the whole shebang! Pink shebang that is 🙂 The store is pinker than my baby girl’s rosy cheeks and SO feminine and shabby chic! The opening is May 1st, and we couldn’t be more excited!! You can click here for their website. The other big news in our family is that my dad is changing jobs. After almost 30 years of being a pastor, he is changing into a new ministry roll as the activities director at Mission Southside here in Olathe. This could not be a more perfect fit for him and he will have the great friendship with his coworkers who he has pastored with in years past. These new endeavors are huge blessings to my parents and I am so thrilled for them. My God is seldom early, but always on time!
And what would Janzen family get togethers be with out food and shopping? Of course, we did lots of both. Saturday night we all went out to eat to Olive Garden and came home to my folks for yummy ice cream and frozen strawberry cake (and coffee, of course).
The only family photo we got all weekend
We spent the morning on Sunday at Panera and, of course, we made quite the ruckus…people were peering over the dividers of the booths trying to see just what was so funny. Yep, we were THAT loud family 🙂 After breakfast, us girls headed out for some shopping – we went up to Riverside to the one and only Nell Hills. Glory! Glory! Halleluiah!
Nora was thrilled to be amongst such decor and fabulous paint colors
If only all life could be in floral print…
Nora wasn’t as thrilled with the fabric rooms. I on the other hand… was drooling.
Eric take note, I would like a set of four of these, please.
Such a fun girls day
Sunday evening was spent with my parents small group so that everyone could catch up/meet Rhoda and Karl. It was such a pretty evening outside and the company was even better. My auntie and uncle shared their testimonies and what God has recently been up to in their hearts – they speak with such emotion and conviction. They are just so real with everyone they come in contact with. I love that about them.
Nora enjoyed her first ride on a swing. The child wasn’t too sure about it at first…
“What, I’m just going to sit here?”
“Oh, you push me! Ok, movement…I’m totally cool with that!”
“Mom, you HAVE to buy me one of these!”
Oh, those blue eyes melt this mommy’s heart. Just like her Daddy’s. Sigh….Sigh, again…
What a great weekend we had. I so wish that my family lived closer, but I suppose it makes our time together that much more special. Unsure of when we will see each other again, we said our goodbyes Sunday night. Big hugging, cheek kissing, standing by our front door waving, wishing it didn’t have to end crying. Some people don’t get it, but I think that’s how family is supposed to be, right?
Nora had her second flu shot today…and subsequently got her first set of hives. Boo hoo for her. Luckily they went down pretty fast on their own and they didn’t seem to bother her too much. Just hoping it doesn’t mess up our 12 hour straight sleeper tonight.
Looking forward to a busy week, full of JOY with my sweet little girl! What does this next weekend hold, you ask? Nora’s first Mecum Auto Show! And hopefully a picture of her next to her namesake, one Miss Shelby GT-500. Here’s hoping!
