It’s that wonderful time of the year again… when the air begins to chill, the colors start to change and harvest peeks it’s face around our corn and bean hills. It’s also one of my favorite times of the year because of the way that our home comes to life. Today I’m going to be sharing with you my fall decorations in our house along with some fall decorating tips and I hope that it inspires you to do something that brings the colors of the season into your home as well.
For me, decorating our home brings me a tremendous amount of joy. I love getting my totes out and dusting off my decorations that have been boxed up from the previous year. I love the way that my home feels when it’s dressed for any season and how it brings the rooms to life. Being home all day, I want to be in a place that I enjoy looking at and being in. And it makes entertaining in our home even more fun!
Let’s go ahead and start in the dining room.
I have this wreath hanging on our door exiting to our south deck.
I found all of my grapevine wreaths this year at Hobby Lobby for only $4.00!
**NOTE**
Simple grapevine wreaths are a great way to dress up your doors and walls for the fall season. Add a few fall sprays or sign to give it some color and watch it bring some joy to your home.
Our dining room is decorated very simply for this fall, but my linen drapes add a touch of dressiness that finishes the room off for any season.
I made my centerpiece for our dining room table a few weeks ago. You can take a more detailed look at it here and make one similar of your own.
**NOTE**
Mercury vases and votives look beautiful paired with the natural colors of fall. It brings a lovely warm glow against soft candle light, either natural or battery operated.
Bernice, of course, had to get dolled up for the season as well. I have always been a fan of bittersweet on a vine, and love how it delicately brings the orange and yellow pops of it’s blooms out with this grapevine wreath.
Although I have not yet found the perfect piece to put atop my china hutch, I did add a few sprays around my frames and candy dish.
My china hutch is a precious gift that was willed to me by a dear friend and patient of mine from the oncology clinic I worked at back in Kansas City. I always think of sweet Margaret every time I get a plate or piece of flatware from it.
**NOTE**
If you don’t know where to start when decorating for fall, small sprays and greenery are a fantastic, cheap way to bring the colors and feeling of fall into your home. I bought these from Hobby Lobby and have them placed through our home to bring some continuity to my decorating.
For those of you who know me, you know that I love nothing more about fall than Starbuck’s pumpkin spice lattes (PSLs). I saw this sign at Hobby Lobby this season and picked it right up (honestly, I don’t even think I looked at the price tag!) and immediately knew that it belonged in my house. I hung this up in our front entry way. It just makes me happy every time I look at it.
Our living room is finally finished (I’ll be doing a detailed post of that soon) and I was so excited to decorate it this season! We spend most of our time as a family in this room, so I wanted to bring some things into it that the girls would enjoy as well.
Eric did a fantastic job on our mantel and fireplace. I love the natural wood color of the beam and how it enhances the browns, oranges and yellows.
I couldn’t find a premade mantle dressing that I liked, so I picked up some sprays that were on sale (at Hobby Lobby of course) and put this together. As much as I love muted seasonal colors, I love some glitter in my life as well, and I felt like these little pumpkins in the center of the mantel added that perfect touch with out going overboard.
Although the mantle is hidden when our TV is down, it’s the perfect central piece of our living room and I love the way it ties our entire main living area together.
I originally talked about this printing cabinet here and how I made it a part of our living room. It has made a great addition to our main living area and has been perfect for adding seasonal décor.
Though I keep most of my Halloween decorations boxed up until October, I got these pumpkins out already this year.
I got this little tree years ago from Zuzu’s Petals and use it through Christmas and the winter changing out the ornaments and lights. These sweet little vintage pumpkin faces add such a fun touch to the tree, as do the little pumpkin men I have on either side. My little Nora LOVES the tree and pumpkins! It’s a fun way to add a little childlike fun to our home and let’s the girls enjoy the decorations, too.
**NOTE**
Adding something small with lights to your house brings such a beautiful ambiance for ANY season, especially in the evenings. Trees are also a simple way to add fun for your kids to help decorate or enjoy.
I recently changed out our table under my floral collage wall. I previously had a white dresser full of small toy boxes and totes, but replaced it with this 1930’s kneading table. I love the way it turned out!
I love my trusty milk glass lamps! I added a few glittery pumpkins and sprays to add some simple spark to this table and it turned out perfect.
I kept my favorite scale out and took down my chicken and replaced her with this sweet little squatty pumpkin.
**NOTE**
Another great way to add fall into your home is with decorative pillows. Whether adding a few solid colored, prints or pictured pillows, it’s sure to bring a smile to your face and a little extra love to your couch or chairs.
Now to the back hallway….
I didn’t want to take away from my striped wall, so I added this handsome scarecrow, pumpkin and sprays around my other milk glass lamp. It’s a great sight to be welcomed home by.
Down the back hallway is my big window. I love the extra pop it adds to the wall and it was a great place to hang my fall burlap pennant.
I hope you have enjoyed a look around our home this fall. And I hope that it has given you some ideas of how to bring some fall life into your house and have fun doing it! If you have any questions, are stumped on how to decorate one of your rooms or just need some help finding a place to start, I would LOVE to help you get started.
And when you are decorating, just remember to HAVE FUN doing it. Don’t always go for what’s popular in all the magazines, blogs or Pinterest. Do what makes your heart and home smile. And I promise you will love it 🙂
