There is something glorious when one has no plans for the weekend, except to just sit on one’s rear and enjoy the fact that you have no plans. Plus, that way if anything productive does happen to get accomplished, you can give yourself an extra pat on the back and feel like you’ve not been a total waste of life. Either way, your a winner.
Saturday started off with French pressed coffee from The Roasterie: you know it’s going to be a good day when Eric breaks out the presser. We went for a walk with our coffee and relished in the fact that our weekend was free to do whatever we wanted. Oddly enough, we decided we wanted to clean out the cars. In the midst of the car cleaning, the monstrosity of our garage was unfurled, so that got cleaned out, too. All the while, Nora was playing in her little corner that Eric made for her.

“Let me out!”
Lucky for us, we found an old crate in the garage that was filled with summer shoes we had forgotten we owned, many of which are still in super good shape. Hooray! For some reason, my old shoes from cheering in high school were at the bottom of the pile. Yes, I am totally keeping them. They still have worn spots on the bottom from where my bases held my feet. As I dusted them off, I was instantly taken back into time – cheering at football and basketball games, competitions, pracice in the commons, high school friendships…all from a pair of shoes!
Speaking of high school frienships, my sweet friend Bethany was back in town for her birthday, and we got to spend the evening with her Friday at her birthday party. We always try to see each other when she is back in town from Texas and have so much fun together!!
Back to Saturday…
While the three of us were lounging in the backyard around the kiddie pool, Eric’s parents called and asked I’d they could make a spur of the moment trip down to see us. Why not?!? Especially with little Nora doing so many new things, we didn’t want them to miss out on all the fun! So while we waited for them to drive down, we continued to hang around outside. The weather was perfect! I have to admit, Saturday was one of the BEST, most fun days we have had since Nora was born. Nothing special in particular….just being together, just the three of us…lets just say my heart was full.
The rest of our weekend was full of lots of playing with Grandma and Grandpa and watching Husker baseball and softball games. This gave me quite a bit of time to get some housework done and work on decorations of my dearest friend’s baby shower this next weekend. Ever since having Nora, successfully starting and completing DIY projects have become quite difficult. She either ends up covered in glitter or eating the remnants of my projects.
The bad weather kind of put a damper on being outside as much as we would have liked, but we still managed to get over to my parents house to play some games and eat dinner. Nora still managed to be the center of attention. Imagine that 🙂

Grandpa Kim makes doing laundry fun!
Lucky girl got to be with BOTH sets of Grandparents this weekend.
Couples bocci ball. Nora was the referee.
Cutest thing: she would giggle every time the bean bags would fall.
Off roading!
Just wanting to be a part of everything 🙂
Standing everywhere all by herself. Growing up so fast.
Sitting in her new pink Adirondack chair from Grandma
Learning how to climb stairs with a pink rufflie heart on your bum makes everything SO much more fun!
But of course the real reason for all of the celebration this weekend was to remember and honor all of the brave men and women who have or are currently serving our country. We went to the cemetery to place a flag on my very favorite veteran’s grave stone – my beloved Grandpa. As we stood there, I remembered him singing “It’s a Grand Old Flag” to me as a little girl. My Grandpa loved his country, his American history lessons, the game of baseball and A&W Root Beer. He taught me so much about all of them. I miss that man more than anyone will ever know. And I will always be proud to be his granddaughter, his little “Dolly.”
Hope everyone else had just as fun of a weekend as we did… Let summer officially begin!
