Week 1 Update

in Uncategorized on August 23, 2013

OK, so technically I have only been doing my new lifestyle changes for 5 days, but it has been going well so far. Here has been my progress this week:

5K Training – this was probably the hardest for me this week, just in terms of endurance. I realized just how out of shape I am this week, but did see improvement in my running. The first day of running, I was supposed to run a total of 25 minutes in 5 minute running/1 minute walking intervals. I could only do 16 minutes the first time – pathetic, I know. But on Wednesday, I ran the full 25 minutes with no problem, so I was super excited about that! My cross training yesterday was great with Jillian Michaels – love her DVD’s and I am totally feeling it this morning, especially in my arms and abs. On my off days, Nora and I took a 3 mile walk instead. Nora has seemed to enjoy the running part of the training as well.

Clean Eating – Even though I had a few outings with friends/appointments this week, I kept the clean eating pretty well under control and did great with my portion control!

Water – I made my goal of drinking 66 ounces of water a day everyday, and cut out the extra drinks until I had met that quota. I could totally feel a difference in the way I felt through the day with the extra H2O. I also totally spent more time in the bathroom peeing this week, LOL!

Weight – I had no weight change in the first 5 days. Still 5’7”, 132 pounds, but I wasn’t expecting too much weight change this first week. It doesn’t help that I am 8 days late on AF…no, not pregnant…taken numerous tests and no baby in my tummy (although I totally wouldn’t have minded a surprise!) I think part of the lateness is due to three big trips the past month, so hopefully that will come around the corner soon 🙂

Recipes – I have only made one of the two recipes this week. The first was a snack/topping for fajitas I made earlier this week. It was just a simple salsa: one package chopped cherry tomatoes, one package corn, 1/2 chopped onion and a handful of chopped basil. Throw it all together and wa-la! Awesome salsa with no added spices or sauces. The second is a baked chicken taquito recipe I found on pinterest. Take a look at this recipe here. I’m super excited to try it this one tomorrow!

Excited for week #2 of my new changes. Hoping that it is as easy to keep up with the changes next week as it was the past 5 days.

Which Jillian Michaels DVDs do you do? I have one still in the wrapper at home that I bought to do on "off" days from running. Since I've been consistently running 5-6 days a week, I haven't busted open the DVD yet. But I've been thinking about it the last couple of weeks…
Keep up the running! Seriously, last year I couldn't run a single mile. I had days where I'd get on the treadmill and only do half a mile. But I kept telling myself that it was okay, just as long as I was getting on there and making it a habit. Now I run a minimum of 2 miles a day, and get 3 without stopping most days. Make no mistake, I hate running. But the way I feel about myself when I don't run is worth the 30 minutes of torture every day. 🙂

Ah, thanks for the encouragement friend, I need it!! I do the 30 day shred and really enjoy it a lot! I have heard great things about all of Jillian's DVDs tho. Glad to know I have another running buddy out there 🙂 Miss you!

Just try not to push yourself too hard. If you have a day where you just can't run, it's okay to walk! And if you have a bad day, it's fine. Just don't let it turn into a bad week. Don't be too hard on yourself!
I miss you too! That's why I love your blog! I feel like I get 5 minutes of "Lauren Time" a few times a week!
I'm probably going to be making a trip to Wichita next month sometime. Maybe on my way home I can stop in KC for a lil PSL date or something? I'll keep you updated once I make some plans!
