Oh friends…. we are entering into my favorite time of the year. There is nothing that I love more than celebrating the birth of Christ and reflecting on the thanks that I have in my heart for God sending Him to this earth. And for me, one of the ways to celebrate this great day is to bring Christmas into our home.
I wanted to start this post by telling you one thing… my home is normal. I have two toddlers who run around and destroy it every day, it’s not perfectly clean and we LIVE in this house. While Pinterest is an amazing tool, sometimes I get so caught up in trying to make my home “Pinterest Perfect,” when in reality, it will never be that. My hope in sharing my home with you today is to give you ideas and examples of how you can simply bring Christ and Christmas into your own home and do it realistically and beautifully; to do something in your home that brings you joy and warmth.
So let’s begin!
The entrance we use the most is our back door by the garage, so making it bright and shiny was key for me when picking my decorations. If you remember, I used this tree in my living room when I decorated for fall, and here I used it again for my Christmas décor. I LOVE pieces that can be used for multiple seasons! The light against the silver branches is just beautiful right when you walk in the door, and those happy little snowmen faces just make me smile!
And that sweet little vintage church house? My husband surprised me with that for Christmas one year back when we lived in the city. He found it at one of my favorite antique stores and it has always been one of my most cherished pieces in my house for the holidays.
Down the hallway, my window is decorated with a Merry Christmas banner. I love how versatile this window has been for me!
Atop my china hutch are my most treasured decorations of the season. I found these vintage carolers at an antique store in KC and SQUEALED with delight when I found them! It’s always so fun to find certain pieces and just KNOW when you see them that they belong in your house.
Honest moment…. I cry every time that I take them out of my totes.
No joke. Ask my husband.
I found these gorgeous red mercury vases at Nell Hills a few years ago and fell in love with their soft glow and pop of color. And that sweet little Santa countdown to Christmas… It is too cute! My biggest little loves to turn the blocks everyday.
And into the heart of our home, the kitchen.
Sweet Bernice is decorated and ready to celebrate!
Nothing says Christmas like a festive cow, right?
One of the best things that my mama passed down to me was her love for all things mercury. Their glow and feel is so warm.
To add light to all my vases this year, I found battery operated lights in the $3 bin and Target and they work awesome! They come six to a pack. Now go and get yourself some 🙂
There is always a huge part of me that wants to fill my countertops with Christmas décor, but the realist in me holds back. Not only am I in the kitchen all the time, but I usually have my kids sitting up on top of them too, so my counters are usually scarce with holiday cheer. But this sweet Santa going down the chimney was a perfect fit for the corner counter.
From my kitchen window, I placed the reason for the season.
JOY
“And the angels said unto them, ‘Fear not! For behold, I bring you tidings of great JOY which shall be to ALL people!”
What a gift that God sent His Son to save us all. A sacrifice I can not even fathom.
I kept my dining room simple this year. Just a silver platter with things that make me smile 🙂
Table décor is a great way to incorporate LOTS of small things that you feel are beautiful! This year I chose a small glitter tree, a vintage angel, a snowflake tree topper, a candle and some vintage bulbs.
The thing that I love the most about this is that it is easily mobile. With having little kids all over my table, it’s great to be able to pick this up, set it aside and get on with meal time.
Our front door is dressed with a wreath to match Bernice’s 🙂 The added pops of silver and pinecones bring the glittery beauty of the city with the subtle simplicity of the country life. It is spot on for my personality.
One of my favorite parts about my printing cabinet is that is has room for décor inside and on top. It’s a wonderful transitional piece for the holidays and I found that it was perfect for this Christmas season!
More mercury in the living room. If you are looking for a great color to go between the rooms in your house, mercury is a really easy way to go! So many pieces and options make for FUN decorating!
And the soft glow of lights combined with mercury sets the perfect mood for Christmas celebrating and reflection. It makes me happy to be in our home.
Inside of my printing cabinet are all of my knick knacks. It’s the perfect spot to put small things that I don’t want little hands to touch 🙂
The Jingle Bells book is one from my childhood. I love having small pieces from my past around our house!
From bottle brush trees to vintage cook books, this cabinet is FULL of holiday cheer!
I have said this before, but pillows are a great way to add the color and feel of the season to your home. This Santa pillow is a family favorite!
My mantle. Can I just tell you how much I love my mantle? The soft green branches of the fir trees combined with the glittery pinecone sprays and lights make such a great statement.
I mean, come on…. LOVE.
Choosing stockings has always been a hard thing for me. I love unique, personality chosen stockings, but I also love continuity, especially at the center point of my home. I decided to go with silver and gold stockings that match the rest of my décor… that way if there are any future farmers that join our family, their stockings won’t stick out like a sore thumb 🙂
Our tree is always one of my favorite parts of our Christmas decorations. It has so many different ornaments on it that mean so many special things to us. Ones that mark special points in our lives, things our kids are interested in and hand made ornaments that I will treasure forever.
The ONE thing that I feel makes a tree is tinsel. Messy, yes. Magical, even more so. If you have never tried tinsel, I would highly suggest you try it on your tree this year. The difference it makes will surprise you.
The feel of our living room just gives me chills. Doesn’t it make you want to curl up on the couch with a cup of coffee? Please, if you are in the neighborhood (or field) come on over!
And now, for the most important part of my Christmas decorating….
Our manger scene; the entire reason for the reason of my passion for decorating our home.
The coolest thing about this manger scene, is that it is the same model that my parents had growing up in our home. I love that the figures are plastic and that my girls can play with it and we can act out the Greatest Story ever told together.
And as you can see, Nora has added a little bird to our story. Love that girl!
I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the things that I have done to bring Christmas to the farm house. What a wonderful opportunity we have to bring the beauty of Christmas into our homes this season! May your home be filled with the hope that the birth of Christ brings!
