Kansas City Weekends

in Uncategorized on July 23, 2014

This past month we have taken two long weekend trips down to KC to visit my family. With Baby Spach #2 coming in 2 months (yikes!) I wanted to take advantage of any last free weekends to go visit my “homeland.” The first weekend was the 4th of July weekend. Lots of running around outside, yummy food and of course fireworks! This was Nora’s first year to really get into them and it was so fun watching her little eyes gleam with wonder as she watched the beautiful colors explode in the sky.

Some of our close friends, the Houglands, were in KC from Indiana that weekend so we got to spend some time with them at their folk’s pool. So fun catching up!

Dear friend!

Nora got her first every “big girl drink” from Sonic (Sprite). She was in heaven!

While Nora played in the kiddie pool, the adults soaked our feet on a hot July day

The afternoon of the 4th of July, we drove out to Prairie Fire to visit my mom’s store at The Threshing Bee and stopped by Rocking Brews for dinner. Nora was happy because they had an outdoor play place 🙂

Such a cool restaurant if you haven’t been there yet!

All set up outside of OMC for the fireworks! Loved this evening with my family.

Seriously, such a big girl!

Two little peas in a pod

The next weekend, just Nora and I packed up and drove down by ourselves. Eric and his family traveled to California for his cousin’s wedding, and I didn’t want to stay on the farm by myself, so off we went!

We hit up Black Bob Bay while we were in town. I haven’t been there since high school and WHOA!! It’s changed so much!

I was practically in tears as Nora climbed the rope wall and stairs ALONE and went down the water slide by herself. When did she get so big?!?

But….she was still small enough to need someone to catch her at the bottom. Hammy to the rescue!!

We got to go out for dinner with Uncle Yeah Yeah one night and went out to a newly revised Southdowns Park. The rock wall was a hit.

A very frazzled, humidity filled toe-head going down the slide.

Nora decided to NOT sleep on the way home from this trip, so we made a few stops at some antique stores to break up the drive. At this particular store, Nora found an albino deer and became immediately obsessed. She hugged and pet it, then stood in front and said, “Picture?” I guess she wanted to remember this special moment.

Love doing a little shopping with my girl! I will turn her into a thrifty antique shopper, just you wait!

We really had a nice time with my family the past couple of weekends. I feel very blessed that we were able to spend some good time with them back home before our next little girl comes into the world in September. We will take one last trip to KC for an overnight stay, August 2nd for (drum roll, please) my 10 year high school reunion. Holy smokes. And now that Eric and I have committed to this trip, I have to figure out how to dress a woman the size of a barge for a nice evening out. Should be fun 🙂

Happy Hump Day, friends!

Hi Lauren! This is my first time commenting on your blog and your post is awesome. I love Nora's 4th of July outfit. Too adorable! I felt your emotion when you said she climbed up the slide by herself. Sofia is growing up just as fast and I can't keep up. Sometimes I tell her to go backwards so I can cuddle her again, but I'm still happy seeing her grow.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! And yes, sometimes I wish I could rewind her to a baby, but then I LOVE watching her transform into a little lady, too 🙂
